Recently watched one of my favorite movies again.  Gettysburg tells some of the story of that famous battle.

I like one monologue in particular, one between Col. Chamberlain and Sgt. Kilrain.  There is a beautiful illustration of the freedom to accomplish what you can.

In stark contrast to the slavery and aristocracy of the South, Kilrain is fighting so he can be judged on his merits.  That is one of so many ways to describe the beauty of freedom in capitalism and the deep freedom in a democracy.

My favorite lines from Kilrain:

I’ll be treated as I deserve, not as my father deserves.

and

There’s only one aristocracy and that … is right here (pointing to the side of his head).
